Phoebe Howitt Counselling
Hello! I’m Phoebe, a counsellor based in York, North Yorkshire and online throughout the UK. I offer short and long term therapy for ages 18+ via video call and face to face at Regus, Tower Court YO30 4XL. My working days are Thursday – Sunday, 11 – 7pm.
Are you on a journey with being neurodivergent? Beginning to think it explains your life experiences and aligns with how you think, act and feel? (undiagnosed, exploring, self diagnosed, diagnosed all welcome!)
I work with autistic, ADHD and AuDHD clients, exploring what comes with that, and how this affects you living in a world not built to your neurotype. This may include: masking, ableism, managing capacity, sensory sensitivities, reasonable adjustments and accommodations to name a few.
I have a keen interest and specialism in working with OCD (diagnosed or undiagnosed). In particular, the overlap of OCD co-occurring with autism and distinguishing what is OCD, and what is autistic routine and stimming. Did you know 2% of the population has OCD, but if you have another neurodivergent condition that jumps up to 25%!
I’m an integrative therapist which means I don’t think there is a one size fits all approach. Instead, imagine you are at the opticians trying on different lenses figuring out which one helps you see clearer… that’s how I approach therapy.
These lenses are;
Neuroaffirmative: this is as standard how I practice. I adapt therapy to work alongside your brain – and mine! (I’m AuDHD). This is not a buzzword to me, this is our safety.
I offer psychoeducation, the science and brain bits behind what’s happening, because sometimes we want to know why and that’s okay and welcomed. I find this helps unlock growth understanding why we are doing something.
Solution-focused therapy: what are we going to do about it? Sometimes being practical can be helpful along side talking therapy.
CBT and ERP (for OCD) may help you to identify patterns and challenges in your life (adapted to be ND friendly, and at your pace).
